Azithromycin is an antibiotic used for the treatment of a number of bacterial infections. This includes middle ear infections, strep throat, pneumonia, traveler's diarrhea and certain other intestinal infections.
Azacitidine is a chemical analog of cytidine, a nucleoside in DNA and RNA. Azacitidine and its deoxy derivative, decitabine, are used in the treatment of myelodysplastic syndrome. Both drugs were first synthesized as potential chemotherapeutic agents for cancer.
