SETAL A U 601 TB

SETAL A U 601 TB is in the formulation of hard-wearing wood finishes, parquet sealers, fast-drying synthetic resin coatings and industrial primer surfacers. General SETAL A U 601 TB is an isocyanate-modified alkyd resin which is especially suitable for the formulation of fast-drying, colourless or pigmented, DIY and decorative paints. The paint films have high mechanical strength, hardness and long-term flexibility. They also have good resistance to water, household cleaning agents and many chemicals. The use of the following driers is recommended: 0.03 - 0.04 % cobalt 6, 0.60 - 1.00 % zirconium 18 and 0.05 - 0.15 % calcium 4. The metal content is always calculated on the solvent-free resin. Methylethyl ketoxime has proved ideal as an anti-skinning agent for these formulations. The amount required is 0.7 - 1.3 %, calculated on the solventfree binder. SETAL A U 601 TB can be thinned with the usual solvents. Aliphatic hydrocarbons with small amounts of aromatic and terpene hydrocarbons are especially suitable. Wood finishes: Rapid drying, excellent filmhardness, high abrasion resistance and good longterm flexibility make SETAL A U 601 TB ideal for the formulation of parquet sealers, finishes for chairs and benches, coatings forwindowframes and other coatings for indoor and outdoor use. Because of the good water resistance of coatings based on SETAL A U 601 TB, they are also suitable for use as marine paints. Clear coats based on SETAL A U 601 TB can be matted with standard matting agents. In order to prevent the settling ofmineralmatting agents, the addition of small amounts of SETAL A U 601 TIX TBA is recommended. SETAL A U 601 TB has good compatibility with long-oil alkyd resins, e.g. SETAL A F 681. Combination with such resins increases the solids content and thus the potential dry film thickness of the coatings. 4 : 1 combinations of SETAL A U 601 TB and A F 681 can still be matted well. Coatings based on SETAL A U 601 TB dry to form defect-free films on most Tropical woods so no special impregnation is necessary before hand. However, given the many different types of tropical woods and their very different properties, trials should always be carried out.
SETAL D L 181

SETAL D L 181 is especially suitable for the formulation of printing inks and coloring pastes. SETAL D L 181 is a polyurethane modified with linseed oil. It is prepared by reacting oil, polyalcohol and polyisocyanate. The finished product contains no free isocyanate or free isocyanic groups. SETAL D L 181 has specific and well-defined characteristics thanks to its high level of urethane groups, an almost total lack of acidity and a reduced number of hydroxyl groups. Its special characteristics include, for example, good wetting action with pigments that are difficult to wet such as carbon black, the ability to combine with a wide range of products from polar to non-polar, excellent compatibility with basic pigments and metal powders, rapid film formation and relatively high resistance to dilute chemical agents. On account of its chemical structure, SETAL D L 181 tends to yellow both in the light and in the dark. Like all oil varnish products, SETAL D L 181 requires the addition of drying agents and anti-skinning agents. When necessary, SETAL D L 181 can be heated before being used or mixed with other binders. At temperatures higher than 150 °C, however, it should be heated only briefly to prevent the breakdown of the binder or deterioration in the quality of the finished products. Printing inks Certain characteristics of SETAL D L 181 are particularly advantageous in this application, such as its good pigment wetting action, its wide range of compatibility, good adherence, high rubbing resistance, good rheological properties and rapid printability without producing spatters and without “running”. Coloring pastes Important characteristics for the use of SETAL D L 181 in these pastes are its compatibility with all commonly used pigments and its good wetting action, even when used with water-repellant pigments. An extremely important property is this resin’s ability to combine with various other binders. SETAL D L 181 can also be used to transfer pigments directly from the water phase to the oil phase (“flushing”).
SETAL D RD-181-X

SETAL D RD-181-X is the co-reactant for Desmodur HL, IL, L and N in the formulation of twocomponent PU coatings. SETAL D RD 181 X is used in the formulation of coatings for wood, e.g. boats and parquet flooring.
VIACRYL SC 303/65XB

Automotive finishes, in particular for metallics, especially for metallic basecoats (wet-on-wet process). Stoving enamels with good outdoor stability and colour retention, for general industrial purposes. Viacryl SC 303/65XB is used in combination with melamine and urea resins for the formulation of stoving enamels. The principal application area is automotive finishes, in particular metallics and clear coats for two-coat metallic systems, in combination with cellulose acetobutyrate for basecoats in two-coat metallics, but also industrial applications such as electric night storage heaters, fluorescent lamps, household appliances, boilers and drying boxes. In addition to their good adhesion, gloss, hardness, flexibility and corrosion resistance, paint films based on Viacryl SC 303 have very good stability to heat and to UV radiation. This is impressively evident in the case of top coats in two-coat metallic paints which, after prolonged outdoor exposure in Florida, show neither discolouration, cracking nor gloss impairment.
